The Queen of King Real Estate Group

Not only is it hard being a woman – it’s hard being a career woman with a family – a balancing act so many women struggle years to figure out. So how do women rise to the top in their careers while being super wives and stellar mothers? Our Queen of King Real Estate Group, Erica King, sheds light on this issue to celebrate all women worldwide on International Women’s Day.

Erica King is the wife of Nathan King, managing owner of King Real Estate Group, formed in September 2021. With the last name like “King” and Erica’s traits, you’ll soon learn the title of this blog is not just a play on words because she has the last name of “King,” she truly has the good qualities of a queen. You go, girl!

It is a fact that the journey up the career ladder often looks different for men and women. According to a 2021 article by Guider, an international, award-winning mentoring and coaching platform leader, only 29% of all senior management roles globally are held by women. Surprisingly, the US lags behind the global average at 21%, compared to China, where women have 51% senior leadership roles. 

A lot has changed over the last 20 years, where women are continuously on the rise in leadership and equality, but only 4% of US women are CEOs. We commend the strong women worldwide responsible for leading this change – and the men who support it – both inside and outside the home.

Strength of one woman

Erica is the epitome of strength, as learned by the influence of one woman. As the oldest of four girls raised by a strong mother who she calls her role model and, most importantly, the woman she most admires. 

At the age of 40, Erica’s mother completed dental hygiene training while supporting four daughters. As the oldest, she had a lot of responsibility to her younger sisters and credited her grandparents for their help during the most challenging times.

A hard worker dedicated to independently caring and providing for her family, her mother earned straight As and graduated top of her class. Erica admired her mother for her strength – for never giving up and always striving to better herself. She credits her mother’s drive and determination for self-development, along with her ability to care for the health, safety, and welfare of her family, to her strong desire to achieve success in both her personal and professional life. There’s a lot to be said about strong women raising strong women.

“Looking back,” Erica said, “it’s the role of my mother that significantly shaped who I am today. I look up to her and believe it’s why I’m strong and hard-working and just a real person with high expectations for myself and others. I know what it takes to succeed – effort and a lot of grit.”

Q:  How did you get where you are today?
A:  Staying focused, working hard, and being good to people. I’m also very personable, compassionate and I believe in providing the best customer service. People tend to gravitate towards that, so I guess that led to a lot of success. Having a supportive husband has been a critical factor, also. 

Q:  Can you tell me about your career path?
A: I worked all four years as an optical sales tech in college. I worked my way up at Starbucks for ten years and then landed an activities job at The Windham, a prestigious senior living community in Fresno, CA. I worked my way up at the Windham for many years before deciding to join my husband in growing his new real estate venture. Today, I’m a licensed realtor and enjoy working with the senior population in real estate. I’m a managing partner at King, focusing on growing the business in unique areas like assisting seniors with their selling needs and transitioning into their next chapter in life. 

Q: What are you most proud of in your career?
A:  My reputation - and our reputation at King. We believe in quality and customer satisfaction, being highly ethical, and staying true to our personal and Christian values while conducting business and managing a diverse team of professionals. 

Q: As a mom of one, how do you find balance with such a busy professional life with one more on the way?
A: Our customers are important to us, and indeed, I will do my best always to provide the best quality of service to our clients and leads, but ultimately, our family is 100% number one! Both Nathan and I want to be available for our daughter Macie, so we make every effort to plan around what’s most important -our marriage, our daughter, God and our church, and family. You have to remember to take time for yourself also – schedule time to do the things that support your spirit and overall wellbeing. 

Q: What advice would you give young female professionals entering the workforce?
A: Work hard, do what you love to do and what makes you happy. Think about what is most important to you in life and do what it takes to get to the goals you want for yourself. Be considerate and kind always, treat others as you would like to be treated and always be patient, and know God has a plan for you!
